Not Cut Out To Be A Mom

This is a guest post by Mark Terborg

Around 2 or 3pm every Sunday I start thinking the same thing…

At least not the kind of mom that Candiss is.

After taking extra days off to be home with the family around Christmas I’m feeling it more than usual. The kids never run out of energy… which is fun, but exhausting!

Every time I do the dishes my youngest decides she wants to climb on the dishwasher and “help” me… if she isn’t doing that she is throwing whatever she can get her hands on all over the house. My middle child is in a constant state of running, jumping, and wrestling. My oldest loves to talk… so much that I always have to make a constant effort to actually listen because the default mode of every human is to start tuning out anything that never ceases!

So, how bad is it to take care of our 3 kids with unlimited energy? Not bad at all! I love it! I get to play and enjoy life with them everyday when I get home from work and every weekend.

But you know what? I also get to go sit in a silent office for 40 hours a week. (Silent compared to volume levels at home!)

I tell Candiss all the time that I have no idea how she is a stay at home mom! She never gets a break! I would go insane!

When I’m home alone with the kids for a Saturday (which rarely happens) I feel a sense of accomplishment when the kids and I can put away all the toys that got taken out and throw away the garbage and food that ended up on the floor before Candiss gets back home… let alone do all the laundry, mop the floors and do all the other cleaning, go grocery shopping at Meijer with 3 kids and 2 carts, and have dinner on the table the minute that she gets home….And at 2 or 3pm on Sunday I’m looking forward to my quiet office… because I’M EXHAUSTED!

Thank you Candiss! I don’t know how you do it!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Our Oldest Turns 6

I really can’t believe it…our oldest is 6! 6 just Sounds OLD!

I love to celebrate my kids on their birthday! It usually turns into a birthday week around here! πŸ™‚ Β Since she is SO old now, this year I asked her if she would rather have a “fun” day than having a big party. A day where she could pick to do anything (well, just about!) and we would just have a day all about her. She loved that idea! Actually, I was relieved! Lets face it, a kid’s birthday party for the mom turns into a TON of work. Considering she has had 5 huge parties and we also have 2 other kids, I’m not gonna lie…I’m a little partied out this year!

This is what we had planned for the day: A trip to Build A Bear, the Disney Store, Taco Bell (I know, she really let us off easy!) A shopping spree at Justice, and getting our nails painted for Christmas! Her brother and little sister were there for the first part. Then, they went home with Dad while the birthday girl, her friend/cousin, 2 aunts and I finished up the day with the girl stuff! πŸ™‚

We had such a fun day! I wasn’t so busy with party stuff that I could enjoy the whole day just celebrating my oldest daughter!

I’m pretty sure the girls had fun considering on the way home, I heard over and over “it was such a super fun day!” in between all the giggling! SUCCESS!

Her cake after her family birthday dinner. On her actual birthday I always let her pick dinner. This year she picked pizza at our favorite local pizza place! She was REALLY being easy on me this year! I was ready to make anything she asked! πŸ™‚ We had a nice dinner with her grandparents and aunts and uncles. Of course she was still spoiled with awesome gifts from them too!

She is just such a great little girl! So sweet, thoughtful and really full of faith – no pun intended!! πŸ˜‰ Β I was more than happy to celebrate this girl and do my best to make her feel special and loved!

We are so blessed to be her parents!
